The professional care of feet was in existence in ancient Egypt as there is evidence shown in carvings at the entrance of tombs dating back to 2400 BC.
A Chiropodist/Podiatrist or foot doctor is a person devoted to the study and medical treatment of disorders of the foot, ankle and lower extremity.
The term Podiatrist originated in North America and has now become the accepted norm in the English speaking world. In the United Kingdom the word “Chiropodist” is often used, but the titles “podiatrist” and “chiropodist” are interchangeable, with the term “podiatrist” becoming more favoured within the profession. Completing a degree in the United Kingdom gives the graduate a BSc (hons) in podiatry.
