Matthew Slater

Matthew Slater MSc, BSc (Hons), HCPC – registered Physiotherapist.

I’m an HCPC-registered Physiotherapist with a Master’s degree in Sports Rehabilitation and five years’ experience working within the NHS. I offer private physiotherapy at Markland Therapy Centre in Westhoughton, a well-established multidisciplinary clinic that provides a collaborative, patient-focused approach to care.

I work with people experiencing a wide range of musculoskeletal problems, from everyday aches and pains to more complex injuries and rehabilitation following surgery. My focus is on helping you understand your condition, restore confidence in movement, and achieve meaningful, long-term improvements.

My approach to physiotherapy is individualised and active. I place strong emphasis on assessment, education, and tailored rehabilitation programmes that are practical, achievable, and relevant to your goals. Rather than relying on short-term solutions, I aim to support long-lasting recovery and resilience.

Alongside my clinical work, I have played rugby for over 20 years and have trained in Brazilian Jiu-Jitsu for seven years. This background has given me a genuine understanding of the physical demands of sport and the challenges that injury and rehabilitation can bring.

Whether your goal is to return to sport, manage pain, or move more comfortably day to day, I’m passionate about supporting you to move better, recover stronger, and stay active for life.
